HTC Flyer gets Android 3.2 upgrade weeks after Android 4.0 is released (Digital Trends)

htc-flyer-honeycomb-updateGoogle may have released Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) already, but HTC Flyer owners are only now getting Android 3.2 (Honeycomb). Android Central, and other sources, are reporting that users of the Wi-Fi version of the Flyer have begun receiving the update to Honeycomb. Those who own the Sprint version, known as the Evo View 4G, should have gotten the update in December.?

For a little history, the HTC Flyer went on sale in May 2011, but because it?s 7-inch form-factor was not yet supported by Google?s tablet-specific Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), it came loaded with a modified version of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), which was intended for phones only. When Google finally began supporting smaller screen sizes with its Android 3.2 update in late summer, HTC presumably began working to migrate the Flyer to the new OS. Unfortunately, like many HTC devices running the HTC Sense user interface layered on top of Android, it has taken months and months for the update to arrive.

Currently, HTC has not listed the Flyer as one of the devices that will receive an Android 4.0 update in the near future. Due to its lack of any standout sales success, we presume that it will never get the update, as it may be more trouble to HTC than it?s worth. But hey, Flyer owners at least you are getting Honeycomb. It?s better than nothing?maybe. We will try out the update when it?s available for our Flyer. ?

PTSD, Respiratory Problems May Be Linked in 9/11 Responders (HealthDay)

FRIDAY, Dec. 30 (HealthDay News) --Among 9/11 responders at the World Trade Center, the onset of respiratory problems and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) seems to be strongly correlated, with indications that PTSD may lay the groundwork for the development of breathing issues, a new study finds.

"This study illustrates the integral relationship between mental health and physical diseases that WTC responders suffer," study co-author Dr. Benjamin Luft said in a Stony Brook University Medical Center news release.

"The analysis not only shows that relationship but also connects PTSD as a possible co-factor in responders' diseases," said Luft, medical director of Stony Brook's World Trade Center Health Program. The findings, he suggested, add ballast to the view that "the illnesses suffered by 9/11 responders are a compilation of problems that often present as an entire syndrome of diseases and conditions."

Luft and his colleagues report their findings in the current online edition of Psychological Medicine.

The researchers look at data from examinations conducted between 2002 and 2008 among more than 8,500 so-called "traditional responders" (mostly police officers) as well as more than 12,300 "nontraditional responders," such as maintenance and transportation workers.

The exams, which looked at WTC exposure, PTSD, respiratory symptoms and pulmonary function, took place at WTC Health Program Clinics that were part of a network set in place by the U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

The team found that PTSD was more common among nontraditional responders than among police (23 percent vs. about 6 percent). Respiratory illness was also somewhat more common among nontraditional responders than police (more than 28 percent versus about 23 percent). Pulmonary function, however, was comparable across groups.

In all, the researchers concluded that PTSD and respiratory difficulties were correlated, and that PTSD may have a "mediating role" in terms of respiratory risk.

"The results are indicative that PTSD appears to have a major and complex role in relation to respiratory illnesses in this patient population," study co-author Dr. Evelyn Bromet, an expert in psychiatric epidemiology and disaster research, said in the release. "Our findings mirror research results found in several veterans' populations and in patients in primary care settings around the world. Mental and physical health are integrally linked. It is not always obvious which one is the driver, but in the end, what matters is that both mental and physical health are recognized and treated with equal care and respect."

"The results are a first step in nailing down the exact relationship between PTSD and respiratory illness," Luft said. "We need to continue to study the relationship and its implications to help us to better treat responders who suffer from multiple mental and physical conditions."

Roethlisberger aims to play through pain against Browns (Reuters)

(Reuters) ? Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger expects to play in Sunday's regular season finale against the Cleveland Browns, as long as he can cope with the pain in his sprained left ankle.

The former Pro-Bowl selection suffered the injury on December 8 in Pittsburgh's most recent game against the Browns and he missed Saturday's crushing 27-0 victory over the struggling St. Louis Rams.

"As long as I can deal with pain, I'll be out there," Roethlisberger told reporters after a practice session on Thursday. "I don't want to let the guys down, so I'll do what I can to be out there.

"I'd like to play just because I like being out there. It would be nice to get another week of rest, but I prefer to play."

Asked how the ankle had responded after two straight days of training, Roethlisberger replied: "It's a little sore today because I worked out on it yesterday. We will see how tomorrow goes and keep plugging away."

Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians was impressed by Roethlisberger's improved mobility.

"He moved around good today, even better than yesterday," Arians said. "I want him out there (on Sunday) but not at the risk of injuring himself.

"If he can't move around and get out of the way, then there's no sense of getting him out there. We will play him if he's healthy and ready to go."

The Steelers (11-4), last season's Super Bowl runners-up, are already in the playoffs and so will likely be cautious over any players with injuries.

However, Pittsburgh can win the AFC North and claim top seeding in the conference if they beat the Browns on Sunday while the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots each lose.

"You'd like to have everybody out there because of the value of the game and we want our best players out there playing well," said Arians.

Charlie Batch threw for 208 yards in a solid performance in place of Roethlisberger against the Rams and the 37-year-old is again on stand-by for the Browns game.
